Established in 1897 as Tomatin Spey Distillery Co. Ltd, the Tomatin Distillery has a storied history. Although it faced bankruptcy in 1906, it was revived in 1909. Fast forward to 1986, when the Japanese company Takara Shuzo acquired the distillery and renamed it Tomatin Distillery Co Ltd. Today, it produces millions of liters of spirit annually, primarily for blended whisky, including its own brands Antiquary and Talisman. However, Tomatin is increasingly recognised for its single malt whisky.
Once a year, Tomatin ventures into lightly peated single malt production, naming it Cu Bocan after a mythical Highland beast. Cu Bocan Creation 1 matures in Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout and Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal Wine Casks. This unique maturation delivers flavours of crunchy red apples, toasted barley, dark chocolate, and wood smoke. Cu Bocan Creation 1 showcases Tomatin's innovation and dedication to crafting exceptional single malts, offering a rich and complex flavour profile.
